Recruitment Weekend 2014

University of Nevada, recruitment weekend

University of Nevada, recruitment weekend

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm never gonna grow up. This past weekend (and a few nights during the week) I spent my time up on campus helping out with sorority recruitment for my old chapter. It has been years since I participated in a full recruitment and I forgot how much I loved it. It's not just about the decorations and the stories, but it's always so fun to see how much has grown and what great friendships have developed. I know it's cheesy, but I wouldn't have had my weekend any other way. Sure, it's crazy to think that staying up until 3am entering data and chatting with teenagers sounds fun, but there is a part of me that thrives on that kind of stuff and I love giving my time to these wonderful ladies.

I met so many great women over the past five days and I can't wait to see them grow over the next few years. I wouldn't have been able to do any of it without my friend Fran who flew into town to help out with everything. We had sleepovers, great meals and hilarious conversations at ridiculous hours of the night. I know it's not a typical "Monday-morning-what-i-wore" post, but I thought I would share a little bit of my life on here... and justify skipping a blog post on Friday.

I hope your weekend was full of as many laughs as mine.

date night style, what to wear on a casual date

Top: LOFT  Jeans: Citizens of Humanity  Shoes: BCBG Paris  Bracelets: vintage and Stella and Dot  Rings: gifted and Tiffany and Co.  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban  Bag: Urban Expressions

After trying this shirt one with about 100 pairs of pants last week, I finally pulled out my freshly-hemmed (by yours truly) Citizens and opted for a laid-back date look. I originally envisioned this shirt with white shorts or my leather skirt, but decided that it's just as cute when dressed down with a comfy pair of jeans and sandals.

I originally spotted this top on the LOFT Instagram feed and thought it was just about the cutest shirt I had seen in years. Insta-marketing totally works. I found myself in the store later that day and walking out with this beauty in my bag.

Have you ever fallen in love with something on Instagram and bought it asap? Please say yes. I hope I'm not alone on this.

Shopsense vs. rewardStyle

rewardstyle, shopsense, purse, affiliate links, blogging, blog tips, style blog

Okay, y'all, this is a blog post I've been wanting to write for a long time... but I had to do some research before I could put my thoughts down on paper online. Anywho, for the last year or two, I have wondered a lot about affiliate sites and decided that today is the day I am going to break them down. Not the simple stuff like, "What is an affilliate site?", but the question that everyone wonders when they first start using affiliate sites-- "What is better? Shopsense or rewardStyle?" Well, today I have the answer for you.

After going back through some of my analytics and "rewards" it appears that I signed up with rewardStyle back in March of this year. A couple of weeks ago I started thinking about the commission I have made from rewardStyle and decided to put it to the test against Shopsense. After looking at my click-through rate, one thing was obvious: my readers love to click my links, but don't always make a purchase. So, in hopes of testing a theory, and trying to make more money, I decided to switch all of my links over to Shopsense for a month and compare the results.

So, for the past four weeks, my links have been through Shopsense instead of rewardStyle and guess what? I have made more money in the last month than I have in the past few with rewardStyle. I know, I know, you're wondering if this will work for you. Well, lets find out. I challenge you to test your readers. Check out your click-through rates, purchases, number of unique readers. Test out both sites. Many blogs that I read swear by rewardStyle but I have learned that my audience works better with Shopsense and there is nothing wrong with that!

So, I am not saying that everyone should switch over today-- but I think that now is as good of a time as any to check out your analytics and make sure what you're doing is benefitting you the best that it can. Spend some time getting to know your readers and make sure that your affiliate links are doing all they can for your blog.

For the past few weeks this shirt has been popping up on blogs and Instagram feeds that I follow with other bloggers raving about what a great shirt it is. Most of the time I chalk that up to paid sponsorships or gifted clothing... but guys, believe the hype. This shirt is awesome. And no one is paying me to say that.

I picked up this shirt at Old Navy over Labor Day weekend and have pretty much not taken it off since. Seriously. My mom even asked me if I was in a "style rut" because I wore this shirt so many times. It is striped, thicker than a normal tee, and has a cute little pocket. What is there not to love about this shirt? Oh, and you can pick it up for under $20.
